A Little Bit About Me...

I've worked as an engineer in the electronics and electrical engineering industry for 14 years. I have tutored children in math and science for the last 4 years, most recently in high school algebra and geometry.
I believe in demonstrating how to do the work and then guiding the children as they apply what has been demonstrated. The best way to learn is by doing under supervised guidance. Once the children learn to apply the proper steps to accomplish the task at hand, the feeling of accomplishment drives them to continue on their own.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love to teach and see the light go on in a child's head as he or she begins to understand. It is a great joy to see them succeed. I am creative, compassionate, and caring, and will do everything I can to find the "missing pieces" for struggling students. Often, students have been rushed through the basic manipulative/hands-on discovery phase of learning, and have had to memorize rules in order to move on instead of truly understanding. I begin by observing the student, take them back step by step to where their struggles began, and start there. I believe that using hands-on/manipulatives, if needed, can then build a firm foundation for solid, concrete understanding and success in learning a new concept. My experience at Motorola brings the "why" to learning, as the student and I discuss why they need to learn something.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked for ten years as a certified surgical technologist. Two years ago I took a position at Eastern Idaho Technical College as a part-time instructor for their surgical technology program. I will graduate this spring with a BA in general studies. I have taken a variety of college classes over the past several years, and this has enabled me to understand a variety of subjects. Many of the courses that I have taken involved writing numerous papers and essays, which I have always excelled at. Besides English, I have taken advanced chemistry classes, as well as biology and and anatomy and physiology courses.
I have always loved being able to teach and instruct in areas that I am very familiar with. Working the past two years at Eastern Idaho Technical College with the students has enhanced this skill. I am able to identify with how people learn and absorb new information. Then ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I like to first get an idea of what the student knows about the problem.. I find that the more time I spend listening to what they know it naturally turns into what pieces I need to add-in. Unless they came to the session to learn new material that would be a different scenario entirely in which it would depend on the student how I taught. I would have to find out what type of a learner they are. Whether it be a visual learner, if they need examples or are an entirely conceptual type of learner.
Throughout college I had extensive experience working with classmates while we solved math equations and physics problems together. I did volunteer work teaching English to children in Mexico as well as teaching English to college age students in Mexico.

I have a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering but because of my love of math, I took several advanced math courses in college and almost graduated with a minor in math. Last year, I tutored students at Sandcreek Middle school on weekly basis and one student privately at Hillview Elementary (1st grader). I have three children of my own who I assist in math and have taught them in the past.
I enjoy teaching children math because so many seem to struggle in this area, especially in confidence. I believe when given the chance of success in math, all children can gain the confidence needed to successfully accomplish the needed requirements by themselves in the future. I believe math is learned when it is made into real-life experiences and also when it is performed numerous times.

Earning a BS in Economics from BYU was challenging and rewarding. To excel in such a competitive field of study required advanced skills in math, statistics, and logic. In addition, having studied the Russian language for 4 years (2 in high school and 2 in college), lived in Russia for 2 years, and tutored students of the language, I am uniquely qualified to tutor students interested in the Russian language. After 5 years of professional experience, I am now preparing to enter a Masters program for Physician Assistant studies in the Fall of 2010 by completing advanced courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Anatomy & Physiology.
I have found much satisfaction from overcoming challenges. While in academic pursuits, many subjects may at first seem difficult. Such tough times are great opportunities to gain confidence by finding a personal path to clarity. By knowing where the student need ... read more

As both an undergraduate and as a master student, I was compelled to help others who had struggled as I had with mathematics courses through the tutoring I did as part of the means of financing my university education in mathematics. I've earned both a bachelor's degree in Finance and in Mathematics with Computer Science emphasis. For four years I assisted student from mathematical topics ranging from basic mathematics through Calculus and Differential Equations. In addition, I have also helped grade school children learning to read, from Kindergarten through second grade.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with students who are elementary aged up through college aged. I particularly love working with middle school students. I am sensitive to student's individual needs and realize that everyone learns at their own pace and in their own way. When I tutor in mathematics, I try to help students develop conceptual understanding, not just procedural knowledge. I believe that all students are capable of understanding mathematics and am able to provide different methods of instruction based on the student's needs. With my background in literacy, I also try to help students see mathematics as a language, or as another way to express ideas. This involves instruction in vocabulary and how to read mathematics notation.
I have taught middle school students reading, English, and mathematics for 10 years. I earned my bachelor's in Elementary Education from Utah State with an em ... read more

I have a love for children and for learning. I believe in being patient and encouraging children to learn. I have learned in my dealings with children that they respond better when they feel that I have a genuine interest in them. I have worked with children with Autism. They are a special challenge, but have helped me to develop more patience and understanding. As a mother I have an appreciation of gentle firmness and consistency and have a desire to help children succeed. I believe in helping children find methods of problem solving that work for them.

I am a kid at heart. I understand and relate to children of all ages. I believe that if you are patient with those that are trying to learn, and can find things that they relate to, teaching becomes easier for everyone involved. I have found success in the past with helping youth, and am confident that I can earn their trust enough to assist them in their studies.
I had a son with some special needs. I had to help him with his math throughout most of his junior high and high school years. From time to time, other students in my neighborhood have asked for assistance with their school studies. Assisting them when needed is something I have done several times over the years.

I enjoy working with children. I have experience with normal developing children and also special education children. I like to motivate children to learn by seeing how the material relates to their lives and how learning can help them achieve future goals. I have great patience and will not give up on any student. As long as they are willing to try, the time it takes them to understand the concept is not important to me.
I graduated from Santa Clara University in 2002 with a GPA of 3.74. I always wanted to learn a second language, so I decided to puruse that in college. I am now a fluent speaker of Spanish. I am currently pursuing a Master's in Teaching in special education. More About This Tutor...

I have a strong interest in the sciences of the world. I earned a bachelor degree in ecology including a minor in botany. I also earned a Master degree in biology studying mountain quail. During my undergraduate and graduate education I participated in the GK-12 program as a scientist in residence. I spent 20 hours a week in the middle school and high school setting for two years. The purpose of the GK-12 program was to help increase scientific literacy in southern Idaho. I am keenly aware of the challenges that face middle school and high school students in grasping scientific concepts. I also taught biology at the college level and I have recognized that many students are at different levels of scientific understanding.
I enjoy watching students grasp the scientific method as it is something that comes naturally to most people if put in the right context. Science is rewarding to ... read more
