I enjoy working with students to help them understand biology and how they participate in a biological world. I believe that the most important concept in teaching is engagement with the student. I strive to engage students in biology by exploring how biological concepts relate to the students life. Genetic diseases, growth and development, and the environment are biological topics that students already participate in; and I strive to teach by relating these topics to the student’s own life.

I believe that people have many different learning styles and it is important to get to know the student in order to teach them well. I am very patient and comfortable with a diverse group of people. I understand that any child can run into problems with schoolwork. I try to find out why the child is having a problem before trying to help them. Did he miss something and fall behind? Is she simply bored with the subject? The approach I take with the child depends on the answers to these questions. I feel it is important for the learner to understand that there is a reason for making the effort to learn each subject. In math, I like to assign the numbers and equations to subjects the learner likes, such as pizza, sports or music, for example.
