With a wide range of experience in the teaching field, I am able to provide a learning environment to students with differing learning modalities. My approach challenges students and adults to rise to their potential academically. With a master’s degree and two bachelor degrees, I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of positions in the education field. I was the first Wellness Coordinator hired in one northern school district, allowing me to relate with both students and teachers at a state and national level. In addition, I tutor ESL/ELL students as well as students preparing for required state and national based tests. I am currently in the process of transferring my teaching certificate from one state to another, while substitute teaching and tutoring students.

I enjoy earnest and humble students, learning with and from them. I feel uncomfortable not learning laterally as well as vertically, seeing that to be knowledgeable, one must not just memorize but ruminate on what was memorized, making as many lateral connections as expedient. I like to simply direct and expand a student's learning as opposed to an artifactual accomplishment; however, my premiere obligation is punctual achievement of task. I am qualified to tutor writing, basic computer, reading, basic math, learning, biology, organic chemistry, genetics, geography, and various exams, all from college-level experiences. I had a scientific book in Barnes and Noble, ample graduate-level coursework in Education, experience as a High School teacher, and lived abroad. I have a B.S. in plant biotech from Cornell.

I have worked as a tutor in my college's writing center and as a teaching assistant in major course requirements. I will graduate at the end of this month with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in English, having completed more than 90 credit hours in literature studies and 18 credit hours of creative writing. I am a recipient of the Haussner Endowed Writing Award and have presented my work at the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society annual convention (2010 & 2011) and my college's Student Research Day. I not only have studied writing and literature and taught it, but I love it. I greatly enjoy reading and writing and like to impart that love on my students. During my tenure at Buffalo State College, I volunteered at the Equal Opportunity Program, where my main strength was utilized by actively tutoring students in the art of the english essay. I was able to tutor these students and advise them in the general format of the essay. We began by procurring a general introduction, or a statement of fact,followed by the body of the essay, descriptive references, and tying it all together with a summary that proves the point that you have set out to make. I tutored many different students, but it was apparent that most students who excelled in math and science, struggled with English writing requirements. I love opening up a child's mind to the love of the written word. The possibility of expressing one's private thoughts and experiences have the power to change lives for the better. My teaching style is centered around student activity. Students must be able to fully understand the objectives of the lesson and be able to construct the meaning of the lesson on their own. All steps should be modeled and structured for clarity. I have graduated from Canisius College with a Master degree in Education. I am currently on track to have NYS initial certification by February. My student teaching was conducted at Hamburg Middle School and Lackawanna High School in 9th grade social studies and 7th grade American history. I have extensive experience in writing through my schooling and in my work experience in journalism, which required a high degree of literacy.
