Experience Summary
I have more than nine years of dependable skilled experience working with all types of children with special needs. Throughout the nine years of my teaching career, I have taught both elementary and secondary students. I have been noticed as a teacher whom has the ability to work with children of various intellectual, behavioral and physical challenges. I am also hands-on when it comes to developing my students individualized educational programs and communicating with home.
Teaching Style
I am a direct/explicit instructional teacher or instructor. Explicit instruction is broken up into stages that follow a sequence. The sequence of teaching/learning is as follows: first setting a purpose for learning, then telling students what to do, then showing them how to do it, and finally guiding them with hands-on application of the new item that was learned.
Reading Comprehension & Fluency Strategies:
Fluency-
1. Focus on phonemic and alphabetic awareness 2. Teaching the meaning of learning simple to complex words 3. Give strategies to increase the speed of students reading aloud
Comprehension-
I focus on the five close reading strategies that support Common Core learning.
1. Number the paragraphs that you will be reading
2. Chunk the text
3. Underline and circle with a purpose
4. Write in the margin what each paragraph is saying
5. Take a deeper look into what the author is saying
My Hobbies
Reading American history books, walking my dog, doing yoga, being with family and friends, volunteering at the Buffalo Animal Shelter,cooking, shopping, and teaching babysitting classes that include (CPR and First Aid)
