I've had years of experience due to my love of English. I'd help my friends and underclassmen to understand a novel or get ideas to write a paper. I'd check their grammar and spelling, and offer advice about the overall style of the paper. Now, I'm studying to become a college professor of English and perhaps French. I'm willing to work with students at middle school and high school age who need help either writing or understanding English or grammar, or need help with an assigned book that they can't understand (ergo, Shakespeare).
Depends on the student. I'm very adaptable. To say I am or am not alone thing here would be to exclude those who don't like that style.

I love piano and schoolwork

I have been a math, science, history, and music tutor since high school. I conduct for a church choir and have taken piano lessons for many years. I a currently taking advanced lessons with my college professor. Being a part of many organizations in high school has made college a wonderful experience thus far. I was taught how to study and learn to my benefit, and I would love to help a child learn how to appreciate school and/or music.
I teach on a basic level. I like to know what the student wants to get out of a session and whether the topic is interesting. I love to help a student learn to love school and music through tutoring sessions.

My comments on tutoring Shakespeare : I have taught many Shakespearean plays and had my students memorize many famous and beloved lines of his blank verse and couplets. Knowing how to interpret his lines is an art, and one in which I am very accomplished

I have 27 years experience in the high school English classroom, and I have a Master's Degree in English from the University of KY. Currently, I am retired and tutor on the side, as well as, run my own business. When I was in the classroom, my students were energized. That's what I bring to the classroom and to my tutoring, a strong knowledge of the subject matter coupled with a creative, energetic approach. My tutoring career began quite by chance as most of my former students kept returning to my home with requests for help with their college assignments in writing. After years of this, I decided that it was a new career for me. When I retired, it was a natural progression to continue educating young people, my true passion, but to do it outside the cinder blocks of a "stuffy" classroom. My brother writes songs for Tim McGraw, in fact he is on his staff of writers. He always said ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I love to learn and love to share that joy with others. I try to be clear and precise as possible in my explanation of course content, but I try to avoid blatantly giving a student an answer to a question. I feel the best way to learn is to let the student work at the problem on his own and come to the solution by himself. This leads the student to a feeling of success and accomplishment and helps him to better develop his own individual skills.
During my two years attending graduate school at Ohio University, I was responsible for teaching an introductory college course. Aside from the mandated textbook, I developed and distributed all course materials, including in-class lectures, classroom exercises, course examinations, and other various learning materials. I assisted the students in properly parsing and formulating an appropriate answer to each assignment, as well as clarifyin ... read more

I love to learn, which is why I love teaching children. Every child learns differently, because of this, teaching is a learning process as well! I believe that students learn best through hands on activities that allow them to internalize the concepts they are struggling with. Whether it is using math manipulatives to understand multiplication and division or using letter tiles to understand consonant blends in reading, hands on activities are the best way to learn.
As an education major at Berea College, I volunteered my services as a tutor three nights a week in addition to my student teaching and education courses. I currently teach Pre-Kindegarten in Lexington.
