As a tutor, I find that it is important to present the material to the students in a way that they can relate to. My job as an educator is to teach them how to learn it and make them want to learn it. I personally do not believe that negative reinforcement is beneficial. Positive responses to students are extremely valuable, even if they may occasionally give the wrong answer. This will give them the motivation to do well. My philosophy is that teaching is part knowledge, part communication, and part intuition. My intuition is necessary to understand where a student is getting stuck. My life has been changed by art. As a child I took art lessons and learned that creativity is much more than making art. Creativity is a way to train your mind to think outside the box. Creativity can be applied to communicating and problem solving in many areas. I come from a family of educators. As a member of the Art Alliance I mentored fellow students on their work and helped them create a cohesive body of work and their artistic voice. The key to being a good teacher is being patient. I believe children learn best in a positive and stress-free environment. When a child does good on the work then I praise them and if they make a mistake then I explain to them the error in the homework. When I was a small child, I remember my teacher being patient and helping me along the way.
