My method of teaching varies with the subject. A spanish tutor and a chemistry tutor can go about things quite differently. I like leading students to find answers on their own so that they understand the paths they are taking. That method is especially helpful in hard sciences and math. In the liberal arts (poli-sci, literature, religion, philosophy, etc.) I like to work in the Socratic method. I'll challenge the students on topics and concepts with questions that need some thought. I want them to discuss issues with me, and that allows me to help expand their understanding and discover weak points in their knowledge.

My experiences as an educator encompass a fairly wide circle. I have a good amount of knowledge and experience in both athletics and academics. I have coached, taught and tutored students for nearly seventeen years. As an English teacher I have the ability to teach and tutor all aspects of reading and writing skills. I also have worked with students on test taking (primarily the SAT's), study skills, organization, and various other pertinent skills.
I believe that it is my responsibility to cater and adjust my style to that which works best for the student with whom I am working. In a classroom setting this can be especially difficult, but with tutoring it is much more do-able.
