I have experience working with college-aged students, but am willing to work with all ages. I have a great working knowledge of all entry level mathematics including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, up through pre-calculus. I am also an avid user of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, though Excel is my passion. I have earned top honors in each of these class levels through my Associates Degree in Accounting from Moraine Park Technical College and I am currently enrolled at Lakeland College earning my Bachelors Degree in forensic accounting. Though, not an expert, I am also willing to aid students with economics or other lower-level business courses if the need arises.
I tend to be a hands-on teacher. I enjoy watching the light bulb "light up" when a new skill is understood. I do like to work face-to-face with students as It provides a more dynamic environment for both partie ... read more

Math is one of my top subjects! I use multi-sensory techniques to teach the basic content and building blocks of math from place value through fractions and decimals.

I have 20 years of teaching experience. I am an Orton Gillingham trained reading tutor for students with reading delays and dyslexia. I teach both math and reading in a multi-sensory way in which students can experience learning with both their hands and mind. This method helps students remember the information better to scaffold learning. I am experienced in teaching students grades 1-8. I am also currently pursuing my degree in Special Education through Concordia University. Projected completion date is December 2017.

A Little Bit About Me...

With a degree in Marketing and a year of school for mechanical engineering I have completed a number of calculus classes throughout the years. I supported myself throughout college and beyond in the Food and Beverage Service Industry and took a job in the Insurance Industry after graduating. I am now in the process of starting my own company and am looking for extra work as well. I really enjoy teaching and have aided in teaching math to young family members and to children of my friends.
Being someone who likes to see the "big picture" of concepts and ideas, I struggled through math as a child, believing that I didn't understand it. I finally realized one day of the simplicity in it and actually began to enjoy solving problems one step at a time. I like to utilize trust and humor in teaching, giving kids an environment to feel safe and confident in. In doing so I have been able to ... read more

My teaching style is different for each student. I have never considered myself a student that things come easy to. I always had to find a way to relate to the material, and when I tutor that is exactly what I try to achieve with each student. Sometimes all it takes is it being explained one more time a different way.
As a graduate of the top chiropractic school in the world, I have achieved a high level of education. I have a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Through out the years I have taught 5-8th graders in various subjects, as well as helped teach for a national board review company to chiropractic students all over the country in a variety of topics. I go through all the concepts with the individual pertaining to what portion of statistics they are studying at that time. I will then walk them through a couple of examples demonstrating how to properly obtain the correct answer. I will follow that up by asking them to do a problem without any direct instruction from me. I will watch them work on the problem to assure they are working on it properly. If any mistakes are made I will politely point them out as the individual is working. Finally, I will ask them to work on problems completely on their own and I will check their answers when they are done. I feel the only way to learn statistics, or any math for that matter, is through repetition and working on a lot of problems.

After having raised 4 children, I know that each child has a different learning style. One may be very able to understand abstract thoughts and teaching styles while the other may not. Therefore, tutoring must be done on a very individual basis. I believe it is the teacher's responsibility to listen and observe each child so that the appropriate teaching style can be effectively used for each child in an effective and relaxed manner.
As a mom of 4 children ages 16-23, a college graduate, and a community volunteer I have a great deal of knowledge in the areas of mentoring and encouraging youth. As an honor graduate of UW-O and a high-GPA graduate at Ashford University, I have proven that I am successful in researching and writing at both an academic and business related level. I truly enjoy teaching and working with students to help them learn. I am open to using any method or style that is effective for individual students, which is what I do as an educator. My enthusiasm for education is obvious to anyone who knows me or observes me as a teacher.
The last twenty years of my full time teaching experience was in elementary gifted education. I currently serve as an adjunct math instructor at Fox Valley Technical College. I would feel most comfortable tutoring any elementary subject and some secondary math courses.

I have a degree in elem. education and taught 4 years of 6th grade math and social studies in a catholic middle school. I also have a two-year accounting degree and have been in sales for about 10 years and have owned my own office supply business. I also coached age-group swimming for over 10 years.
Every student is unique and has different ways of doing things. In a swimming pool, you can see physical improvements in technique which ultimately improves performance. In teaching, it is different. It is sometimes very difficult to see the "light bulb" go on when a student finally grasps a new concept. I take different approaches in different situation to help students achieve results.

I enjoy teaching students of all ages, and the challenges and rewards that go with it. I believe that students learn at their own individual pace, and as the teacher I need to accomodate this while encouragin progress. My studies in psychology taught me the importance of positive reinforcement and constructive communication to the learning process. I believe learning occurs in small steps and concepts need to be broken down into smaller pieces for learning to effectively occur; these steps need to be mastered before the student moves on. By mastering these smaller steps, students will be motivated to learn.
I enjoyed the challenges and rewards of my college education because I was motivated to acheive my personal best. I earned a BA degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Behavior Analysis, and a minor in Animal Behavior. I also chose to take several english and writing cour ... read more
