A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all students can learn. I think that one of the cornerstones of my teaching style is having high expectations for my students. Though each student has different skills and abilities, most can be engaged to use the skills he or she brings to learn if the student knows that his or her teacher believes he or she can learn and if that teacher presents the content in an interesting way. I believe in using humor and real-life examples to help students see why what we're learning relates to their lives. I have been teaching for over 20 years. During those teaching years, I had the opportunity to expand my knowledge in the sciences by attending various fellowships and workshops during the summers. I also had the opportunity to work in industry for 2 years, so I got the experience of that to bring back into the classroom.
Every class is different, so your approach has to match that class. So, how you teach in one class is nothing as you would teach in another. I try to get the students involved. I try to get them to see the whole picture.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a type of teacher who like to focus in on both what the students knows and what they don't know. After the assessment, I try to pull those two parts together so that they can effectively understand concepts in a wholistic picture. During my 35-year of teaching, I spent 30 years teaching everything from Alg. 1, Geometry, Alg. 2, Trig., Statistics. I was also a math department chair for 5+ years. In that capacity I wrote curriculum for local and county districts. I also lead my department and county in choosing texts. I worked on committees at the county level in training teachers. After my retirement, I realized that I missed teaching and working with young people and helping them prepare for ACT tests and classroom assignments.
