Experienced and Creative Tutor in Math, Science, & ACT prep

I prefer inquiry based learning in which I utilize the facilitator and "personal model" methods to help students improve their independence, increase their confidence to explore subjects independently, and show them first hand how to comprehend concepts
I've been a tutor for the past 8 years. I started tutoring/teaching as a college student, and I've loved every moment. It's so rewarding to see a student's growth in a subject area. I've provided Praxis and ACT prep to students as well as provided help for subject are state tests such as Biology and U.S. History. I love all math and science related subjects and excel at helping students relate to them.

More About This Tutor...

I have earned both a degree in English and a master of business administration. I am currently a CPA examination candidate, and I have passed two sections of the exam. I enjoy helping others achieve their goals, and I have been active in tutoring fellow students in the past few years. Many students I have helped have vastly improved their test scores and understanding of the subject matter.
I teach others by first trying to understand the way that person learns best. If I find that one way does not work for that student, I will try a different approach. I have found that many students have an easier time grasping basic understanding by using real life examples to which they can relate. Once a basic understanding is achieved, further learning can begin. I believe it is important for a student to feel they can be honest about their progress and feel comfortable asking questions. A Little Bit About Me...

I grew up in Spain as my parents were career missionaries. From the time I was young, I have enjoyed teaching and have done it whenever I could. In 13, I taught my younger brother to read. All during high school, I tutored students. When I went to college, my part-time job was to be the assistant to the Spanish professor and to teach in the language lab. I taught for many years in schools overseas, in Nicaragua and Spain. In the U.S. I taught Spanish for 2 years in Piney Woods and 3 years at Clinton High School.
It is my belief that all have the right to receive a thorough and complete education. Children who enter the system at kindergarten should be surrounded by an environment where they can achieve their maximum potential. Their curiosity should be stimulated at a young age, and that along with an organized and developed program, will aid these students in ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a middle school teacher for Jackson Public Schools, my jobs duties include planning and preparing lessons, grading papers, and preparing report cards. Teaching classes and assessing student’s progress and performance. Providing constructive feedback and guidance to students experiencing educational or personal challenges. Maintaining order and discipline in the classroom. Communicating with parents, teachers, and other professionals both formally and informally.
I am a very eccentric individual who enjoys my students both academically and personally. My teaching style involves developing a personal relationship with my students in order to more effectively advance them academically. Once a student becomes comfortable with me, they also embrace the fact that it's ok to be open with me about their strengths and weaknesses. I believe its essential that the learning environment is e ... read more
