A Little Bit About Me...

Besides my formal degrees, I believe it is my experience that makes me highly qualified for a tutoring position. My experiences include working in rural, urban and suburban school districts. I have also worked with children with disabilities through the Center for Disabled and as a special education teacher in an inclusion classroom. Through my graduate program, I tutored at a summer reading program. During this six week summer reading program, I used a balanced literacy approach to help my student become a more confident reader and increase her current reading level.

A Little Bit About Me...

Sine high school, I have worked with children in BOCES. However, I started college later in life, after children and marriage. I wanted to provide my children with an education that I couldn't afford since I knew nothing of grants in 1974. I started with my AA and did not stop until I achieved my MS. My education has taught me discipline, research, study habits, and critical thinking skills. I have tutored students K-12; in Language Arts, Reading, Literature, English, Parenting, Nutrition, Careers, and electives for 11 years. Each individual student has taught me something new.

Over the years, I have had the ability to work in various grade levels in various school districts. During my student teaching I had the chance to teach first and fourth grade. After graduating, I subbed in many school districts throughout the Capital Region. I worked as a teacher's assistant in a self-contained classroom serving children between first and third grade. I had the opportunity to work one on one with them and contribute to helping them successfully reach some of their IEP goals. I currently work as a Pre-k teacher in a local elementary school and work to meet their indiviual needs every day.

I find that each person has a different learing style and try to find out what works for them. I also teach them that organization of thoughts and ideas are helpful in how they approach learning. I relate the subject matter to what is needed to learn and to something that they can relate to.
