I often use word games or riddles as rewards for good work. It motivates effort from my students and makes them listen more closely. With my esl students, I made sure to apply new words to their life in order to gain the most retention of the new vocabulary words. The approach I use of ask students to draw from their own lives in order to illustrate meaning and comprehension encourages a dailogue that works well with any vocabulary words for any age group.

I am very dynamic personable adult who loves to laugh, but also knows how to get down to business and get work done. This helps the student to feel comfortable so they can ask questions, even those they may feel to be stupid.
