I always wanted to become a math teacher, but in order to become one in a communist regime; you had to be a member in the Romanian Communist Party. My teaching style is customized to each student's needs. Because all students have different learning styles my instructions are patterned to maximize that student's particular style. After evaluating each student with a baseline test, goals and objectives based on the state's/district's curriculum are determined. My style is setting high but realistic expectations with rigorous assignments. I also try to have an overdose of encouragement and make the learning session fun time for students. I enjoy working with a student until I see the "light bulb" come on. Because people are individuals, I realize that the same approach will not work with every student. In general, however, it is helpful to take something that the student already knows, and to work from there to those concepts that they do not know. This approach provides a solid reference point for memory and understanding. Patience is a key, and realizing that the length of time required to learn a concept is not an indication of intelligence.
