Hidden Talents Tutoring

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire with a degree in computer science, I started tutoring in the Academic Skills Center at UWEC and discovered this was a hidden talent. My instinctive use of the Socratic method earned praise from the director right away. Microsoft Excel is one of my top subjects! I routinely teach Microsoft Excel skills to my office co-workers and my wife's co-workers. I've led small workshops within my office to teach short-cuts and tips for multiple Excel tasks.

I received my B.S. degree in Biology, and am knowledgeable about many sub-disciplines, including life sciences (plants/animals), genetics, evolution, and anatomy. I am generally able to explain difficult biological concepts in a more conversational way. I've worked with high school youth in the past (approx. 2 years experience) in a crew structure teaching job skills (resume writing, interviewing, etc.) and basic biological/ecological principles. My goal is to assist students in their learning process.

I have been a journalist for year in a French newspaper. It was a great experience for me. Later I went to broadcasting(Radio) where I spent couple of year presenting News and programs in French. Meanwhile I had to cope with teaching French grammar in high school. At the same time, I tough English to some French students and private individuals.
My teaching techniques relies on the fact that people learn different.It is a fact that a language teacher like me understood. Wrongly , as people use to think, teaching languages seems easier , but it harder than a math class. A Little Bit About Me...

During my undergrad studies at UWRF, I was sponsored to become a tutor in the Writing Center on campus. There was a prerequisite practicum, but it was very hands-on learning. I worked with students from a variety of backgrounds (ESL, freshman comp, MS candidates, etc). At Metro State I participated in a semester program teaching English in Puerto Rico, for which I received the ESL certification. I also TA'd for Writing and Designing for the Web.
I am a very adaptable teacher--I can easily pick up on a student's needs and abilities, and work to their strengths in that way. I enjoy not only helping them learn, but also their backstory and considering how it affects their learning style.
