My comments on tutoring Poetry : I have experience in writing poetry, namely slam. I also have studied poetry in classes and on my own.

I have taken creative writing and journalism courses. I have experience in the journalism field, and won an award for one of my stories. I have also done much writing on my own, including writing a full-length novel (in the works of being edited with hopes of publication). I am an avid reader and my reading comprehension/writing scores on tests have always been well above average.
I work hands-on, using examples. However, I am readily able to adjust to new learning styles!

I like to challenge people to think outside of the box. Although I know it is important to know how to take tests and write papers appropriately, I also know that showing skills that go above and beyond, is what makes a student stand out. Attending a private liberal arts college taught me to push myself to be the very best I could be. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Classics with an emphasis on Greek, and a minor in English. Teaching needs to adjust with each student or class, because everyone has their own flavor for learning. I tend to let the student take the lead at first, and then I try to guide them through the areas they're questioning. It's like a car on a road with a new driver: the student is driving all over the road, and I need to gently urge them into the right lane (or the correct answer). I also like to use real world examples when I can from my past experience, and encourage the student to do so as well.
