Proficiency is acquired with methodical steps.

My approach is simple: assess the student's academic weaknesses, review the strengths, then teach the new material in order to bridge the content or skill. "Scaffolding" is the best means by which to teach so that the student understands the significance of the lesson. Too often, teachers play sage-on-stage, thereby neglecting to connect what the student already knows with the new material.
I am a credential-holding elementary school teacher with experience ranging from Kindergarten through 6th grade. Also, I have tutored children and adults in English language arts, from basic grammar to college composition writing. Further, I tutor other academic subjects: social studies, history, literature, general science, basic computer skills and creative writing. I hope that I can be of use to you!

If you don't like the results, I haven't done my job.

I won the state championship in the 100 meters and went to Adams State College in Alamosa CO. Broke a leg in track and received withdrawn F across the board. Left college and healed up. Went to the Army two years and reserve three years. Came back and picked up the quickest degree possiable. Moved to Hawwaii, three years. Became a ciritified dept of defense government contractor. Furnish and deliver contracts. Ended up moving back home to Albuquerque NM. I started working in the Indian Casinos for 13 years. I bought a house and retired. But now I'm tired of sitting around.
All I do is tend to my students needs. I'm personal. Like to get off track with my students and lead them back to the point.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have recently graduated from UCLA in June with a Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. I have been tutoring my peers and students younger than me throughout my entire high school and college education, mostly in subjects related to math and science. I find working with kids and young adults very fulfilling, and I am looking to tutor more this summer because I would like to use my education to help students younger than me excel in their academics. As an engineering student, I have taken and excelled in several rigorous mathematics courses, including multivariable calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra. I am also confident in my teaching abilities for high school math, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus.

Exciting and effective tutoring available!

I have always had the ability to effectively teach my family, peers, and other classmates. However, I recently decided to get into the field of tutoring. My very first session, I fell in love with it. I am understanding that each student has different needs, different strengths and weaknesses. It is my job to reward those strengths, figure out those weaknesses and strengthen them. I am a young lady myself, but I know that the youth is our future. If I am able to have an impact on at least one student and their educational endeavors, I am pleased. Education is the key that will unlock the doors to the future of our youth.
I am able to effectively teach a group of kids, and I am also comfortable with the one on one teaching style. Regardless of the environment, I know how to make sure the needs of every student is met.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have had the experience to maintain patience when teaching students. I have always loved helping children become confident in who they are as well as in achieving their academic potential. I make an effort to create a comfortable environment where students are able to approach me for all their questions as we work to improve the skills they must have for a future full of hope and opportunity.
I was a foster parent for fourteen years in which I spent numerous hours with each child weekly working with them to improve their academic skills. I taught a 4th/5th grade class in the 2006/2007 school year. I graduated with a 3.92 GPA where I excelled as a writer. I currently write the company newsletter at my place of employment. I love to teach and hope to be able to spend more time doing so. My BS is in Human Services.I also have added alcohol and drug studies to that degree. I will be ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a Merchant Marine and Chief Steward I have taught, tutored, or mentor kids of all ages and backgrounds. My passion when teaching is to try and breakdown the subject to it's most basic level. A level that the person being taught can understand. Having work with kids from different ethnic and educational backgrounds I find this to be very affective and productive. Also, not having been a great student in high school with dyslexia, I have been able to over come these short comings and graduate from collage with honors.
Find out what level the student is at, what their interest are, what the like about learning or hate about learning and go from their. As each person is different and each person learns in their own way. Learning is not hard, finding out how to learn is.

More About This Tutor...

I hold a BA and MA, both of which are in the field of Biblical Studies. My research experience and written-communication skills have measureable depth because of the years I have invested in constructing essays, articles, and research papers; including my final MA project which was over 40 pages with a 15-page annotated bibliography (over 4500 pages of reading). During the last 3 years as a Pastor, I served in a tutoring capacity as well in our church’s after-school learning center. My role there was to assist children in grades 2-11 with homework, reading, and writing.
Given the proper environment and method(s), any student can and will learn. My role as a tutor is similar to Michelangelo’s role as a sculptor. When he was commissioned to sculpt the “David” statue, the giant block of marble for this work had been waiting in a cathedral-courtyard for almost 40 years. History records ... read more
