I've been playing guitar/bass guitar for 15 years. Been in touring bands, help set up bands, and equipment. I have been playing classical guitar for the last 2 years and is very excited to explore this avenue. I find classical guitar more demanding than rock, jazz, blues put together. I offer a wide range of musical adventures that can be beneficial to someone who wants to take music to the next level.

More About This Tutor...

I earned two bachelor degrees from the University of North Carolina in December of 2007. From there, I chose to move to Massachusetts to participate in a ground breaking fellowship at MATCH Charter Public High School. I chose this alternate route to receiving teaching certification because of the classroom experience it provided me. In addition to earning certification and completing student teaching hours, I tutored for 20-30 hours a week in all subject areas in grades 9, 10, and 11. My favorite subjects to tutor are reading, writing, history, and biology.
I am a passionate teacher and tutor. I believe that there is not a minute to waste when working with youth, and I like to conduct vigorous tutorials and well-paced classes. I believe that everyone has a different learning style, and this is why tutoring is such an integral supplement to classroom teaching. I enjoy getting to kno ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As the oldest of three children, I have informally tutored for many years. While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I worked with a community college student and aided him in passing his Algebra course. My interests in education are diverse. I have a liberal arts degree which drew heavily upon my writing skills. Additionally, I was completing my prerequisites for medical school which required math and science analytical skills. Before beginning medical school, I spent several months in Guatemala learning Spanish. I then worked for a year at a boarding school for learning disabled children and tutored these students in math, English and science.
Learning is an incredibly individual phenomenon. I believe patience and creativity are essential to helping children learn. A concept can be explained in many different ways and modalities and the key is to find which styles of learni ... read more

As a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I have a proven track record of success. I am currently pursuing a MS Degree at Full Sail University and my current GPA is a 4.0. I completed my BA degree in Music in 2007. While studying at UNC I took extensive course in Education and during that time was pursuing an Education Degree as part of the NC Teaching Fellows Program. I have worked in several schools and academic programs since August of 2003. These programs have given me the opportunity to both teacher and tutor students on all grade levels.
I enjoy working with students and watching their growth and development academically. My approach to each student is different because I understand each will need a different approach. Initially with each student I identify his or her strengths and weaknesses with the material. While building on their strengths, I atte ... read more

I seem to have a rapport with children and can easily communicate and garner their trust. My teaching style depends on the student and how they receive and process information. Initially I prefer to create a dialogue whereby I am able to gain an understanding with the child about how they are motivated and what has been an effective way to facilitate their learning. Since I am relatively new to the teaching experience I would rely on perceptions of previous involvement as well as my own. I believe that a solid elementary education lays the groundwork for success in a child's educational future as well as affecting their ongoing life skills in a positive way.
I have raised and tutored two children and two grand children. In the early seventies I was a tutor for a Canadian third grader through Operation Share at Mesa Community College San Diego Ca where I was studying elementary educ ... read more

I loved teaching since my first teaching experience in 1974 that iinvolved working as a long-term substitute at the Omega School in Madison, Wisconsin. The Omega School, an alternative hiigh school that occupied a few rooms in an an old office buiilding, helped high risk students who couldn't fit into a regular high school environment obtain their GED. Some students were gifted but unable to adjust to the regimens of regular high school. Others stole cars or acted out in other ways. My next teachiing experience was in 1975 as a teaching assistant at the University of California, Irvine. T.A.'s taught their own classes and were responsible for lectures, grading, assignments. I taught composition and literature. I loved it and felt at home. My supervisor, now a professor at Duke, told me I was a "natural teacher." I've been teaching ever since. I've taught journalism, science writing, huma ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Being a student at UNC Chapel Hill has challenged and inspired me to think creatively and achieve excellence in all areas of academia. As a senior at Carolina I will graduate in the spring of 2012 with a BS in Biology and a minor in Chemistry—providing a thorough understanding of science. I have grammatical expertise and writing skills due to extensive research and refutation papers, and laboratory reports and essays throughout my undergraduate education. In the last several years I have tutored elementary reading and writing at the 1st-3rd grade levels working with underprivileged children. I have tutored general chemistry during my senior year in high school to honors students, and continue to tutor college students in chemistry today.
I enjoy working with children of all age ranges, and it is my personal goal to make learning a difficult subject less of a chore. I believe that h ... read more

As a current tutor for Kaplan, I am involved with teaching future dentists how to prepare for the Dental Admission Test (DAT). Teaching prospective dental school applicants how to master this standardized test involves teaching not only test taking strategies, but also the mastery of large volumes of information. The DAT tests knowledge in the following areas: biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, reading comprehension, and mathematics. Apart from a sound base of knowledge in the sciences, I am also skilled in writing and grammar. I have either personally, or on behalf of others, researched, written, edited, and reviewed papers from a wide variety of academic disciplines ranging from Art History papers to Chemistry Lab reports. Because I have experience with such a wide variety of subject-writing, I am able to quickly and efficiently teach others how to turn mediocre papers into s ... read more

I graduated from San Diego State University, with a B.A. in Social Sciences and a Biology minor (Animal Behavior), in 1995. Previously, I had served four years in the U.S. Navy from 1982-1986. During 2001-2003, I worked for Salem-Keizer School District in Oregon as a Special Programs Instructional Assistant. I worked primarily with an autistic child, but also assisted the other students in math and reading. I have excellent writing skills, and have had some materials published for pay.
I am a patient and empathetic tutor. I have come to realize that there is sometimes a correlation between students having problems in school, and having problems elsewhere. Sometimes they feel the need to discuss these things. I think it's important to listen, but on the other hand, not let that take up a great deal of time. I am able to redirect and focus the students' attention, and to expl ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a senior in the Education program at Appalachian State University. As an Elementary Education major, I have worked closely with children from many age levels. I have participated in an after-school tutor/mentor program at Appalachian State in 2008. In 2009, I completed two internships while in the Education Program. One working with 2nd grade students and the other with 5th grade students. I have also taken many courses to understand context and teaching strategies in all subject areas.
I believe that children must be engaged in the subject matter before successful learning takes place. Finding fun, interesting, and personal ways for the child to connect to the topic will truly allow them a chance to learn and retain information. I love finding different ways for individual learners to understand what they are being taught.

My teaching style is simple. As it has not been professionally nurtured I have taken my ques from those I have taught. It is simply to provide what is needed. I prefer to spend time with a student and learn what works for them. I believe trial of multiple styles to find success is critical to each student. Additionally, there is nothing wrong with having fun while you learn!
As the child of a school system administrative professional, I have always spent extra time in the school environment. As a high school freshman I began to tutor elementary school students based on the needs highlighted by their teachers. I spent a lot of time working one on one with English as a secound language students. I assisted with their writting, reading, and basic math skills. Additionally I work particularly well with withdrawn children who need special attention.
