A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is different for every student. I love finding what is going to work for each student. I am a firm believer in individualized lesson plans.
I have experience working with ages 5-20. I have worked with students in reading and spelling for 5 years. Many of these children were diagnosed with dyslexia and/or ADHD. In addition to working with students in reading I also have 2 years experience in tutoring in accounting courses! I have always enjoyed working with students one-on-one. To teach effectively one must understand what motivates the individual, and the only way to do that is to spend time with that person. If a student is a visual learner, I will use visual aids to illustrate the lesson. If a student is an auditory learner, I will concentrate on lecture or video instruction. The key to student learning is to engage the student's interest. And of course, practice is essential when learning a skill, so I give students the opportunity to practice each skill and receive feedback, which helps guide the student into beneficial change and growth.

I have always valued the importance of a quality education and have encouraged friends with no college ambition to start working on their degrees. I am not, however, an elitist. I think every endeavor is a learning experience, but there are basic skills that are necessary to be successful, such as grammar, spelling, and professionalism. My experience in formal teaching is mostly in college-level public speaking and coaching Little League, but I am a proficient and tedious writer.
