A Little Bit About Me...

I have experience in hands on teaching of students with their horses. I have worked on and off for many years helping memebers of local 4-H clubs prepare their animals for show. I enjoy seeing a student "click" with their project and be able to accomplish new goals. I think it is important to set specific goals for aech student and make those happen before you move on.
As a graduate of Wheeling Jesuit University in General Science Physics, I have completed extensive coursework in the areas of math, science, and engineering. I am looking to obatin an accelerated teaching certificate and I believe this would be a good start for me. I believe in using a multi- modality approach to teaching. The more senses involved, the more likely one will remember. I graduated from college with certification to teach grades 1-12. Do to the job market at that time, I was unable to get a full time teaching job. I substituted and then tutored for 2 years. Biology is a subject that unfortunately can get pretty dense and requires an amount of memorization. However, it is a subject that builds upon itself, so if you understand the big picture of a given topic in biology, it’s easier to expand from there. Thus, I prefer to start with the big picture first, then build from there. When possible, I like to use real-world examples so the student can see the biology principles they’re learning at work. While meeting with a student, I like to assist the student in developing their answers, not just giving them answers though sometimes that’s necessary. When a question is answered wrongly, I explain what is wrong with that statement and suggest what a correct response could be.

I believe that in order to be an outstanding teacher one must exhibit a plethora of skills. For instance one must be able to multi-task and integrate many different occupations into the incredible job of being a teacher. You must be a police officer in that you have to be able to diffuse arguments if they arise (and they will). You must be a doctor, in that you must be able to apply bandages to minor injuries that can result from accidents during recess.
