Quite simply, people are different. Accordingly, people learn differently. The real skill in teaching any subject is the ability to notice when a student, who for all intents and purposes has the capacity to succeed in a particular subject, but does not seem to be able to achieve such success. My approach to teaching is to listen to the “student”. Do the questions they ask seem to reflect confusion or do they ask no questions which may indicate they are so confused they don’t know what to ask? I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting. I have very strong math skills, especially in Algebra, which is what my daughter is learning now. I excelled in grammar, art, health, and science as well. I was a teacher at a private school for a year after college before I started a family and began home schooling. My daughter is now in the 8th grade and tests at the college level in reading and high school levels at most other subjects.
I have a daughter in the 8th grade and a son in the 6th. I have home schooled them the past 9 years. They have very different learning styles which has helped me to learn to teach in different ways to accommodate their needs. I am patient and easy going and I love helping kids.
