I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting. I have very strong math skills, especially in Algebra, which is what my daughter is learning now. I excelled in grammar, art, health, and science as well. I was a teacher at a private school for a year after college before I started a family and began home schooling. My daughter is now in the 8th grade and tests at the college level in reading and high school levels at most other subjects.
I have a daughter in the 8th grade and a son in the 6th. I have home schooled them the past 9 years. They have very different learning styles which has helped me to learn to teach in different ways to accommodate their needs. I am patient and easy going and I love helping kids.

A Little Bit About Me...

Due to the fact that I was born and raised in Germany and have since lived in various foreign countries, I have adopted sensitivity when it comes to culture and characters. As a teacher I learned to be very observant before implementing a specific teaching strategy. Not only does every child have a different character, but they are all brought up in different surroundings and family constellations. Through my involvement in the Big Brother's Big Sister's program I learned that private family matters are directly related to acedemic success. As in my case tutoring involved building the child's confidence and self-esteem which ultimately had a positive effect on academics.

A Little Bit About Me...

Although my degree and early experience is in journalism, I have spent 16 years teaching middle school English. During that time I taught English Language Arts, Journalism, and TV Production. I have always nurtured a love for English literature, both in myself and in my students. In addition, my experience as a reporter and freelance writer gives me deeper insight into the artistry of written English.
I believe that learning comes from a good rapport between teacher and student. I like to make students feel at ease, and then progress is achieved in the context of a safe learning environment. Rather than taking an authoritarian approach, I prefer to act as a kindly mentor and facilitator of students' learning processes. Learning is a voyage of discovery; my role is to show students how to set foot upon that road. However, I believe in setting high standards for student achievement.
