My classes are by no means easy, I prepare my students for life, even if that means having students leave my class with “their head hurting” because they had to think too much. I believe my ultimate philosophy has been that learning should hurt a little bit. If the classroom environment is not provocative, controversial, and challenging, I think the teacher has fallen short of his or her task. On the other hand, I am not afraid of being down-to-earth, funny, or look unusual if I have to do so.
I have extensive work experience and knowledge in the areas of Adult Education and Literacy, teaching English as a Second Language, Math and Science. I would like to share my enthusiasm for these subjects, and education in general. My teaching experiences in Adult Education and Literacy at Northside ISD, San Antonio Texas have allowed me to work with students from diverse backgrounds. During ... read more

UT-SAN ANTONIO STUDENT WITH DIVERSE SKILL SET

I tend to be really flexible and try to adapt my teaching style to the learning style of the student. For students who tend to be more tactile, I might have them handle apples if a math problem references apples. If a student is working on a writing assignment, I will offer suggestions (such as marking spelling/grammar/punction mistakes) and help them learn how to correct the errors so they won't continue to make the same errors in the future.

My comments on tutoring Government : I hold a Masters in Mathematics and a Bachelors in Molecular Biology. My teaching certification is EC-6 and just added ESL certified.

I believe all children learn at there own style and pace and that we as teachers need to find what works for the child and help them build on their strengths in a positive way.
I am a certified teacher and have been teaching for 8 years in elementary school. I began my teaching career by accident leaving the law enforcement field to work initially part-time as a teacher. However I really enjoyed working with children and found that I was good at it. Over the years it has been nice to hear both parents, teachers, and children comment that I have made a difference in their lives and that I have helped make them the young people that they are shaping to be. Many children and parents have said that while I was tough I have helped them stay in school and become A students. This motivates me to continue to do my best in my job and for the kids.

My missionary experiences informed me of one idea: people are important and they have to be considered person-by-person. Those experiences have led me to take a teaching philosophy and teaching practice that is person-centric. I work to understand the rhetorics, theories, practices, and experiences that inform each student and the classroom as a whole. In practice, this manifests in extensive talking and co-writing (on daily assignments) to assess where exactly these students are at and how I can help them. I believe that each student, each individual, has the desire and capacity to learn, so I am constantly working to demystify composition so they can truly see how language can inform them and make their lives better.
Applicable to this job, I remember my high school years and the processes I had during my English and Composition assignments. I completed an English Bachelor’s degr ... read more

Working with kids is my fascination. I believe that teaching children should not be standing up and lecturing or simply explaining something. Its about getting to know the students, making the students feel important and unique in their own special way and most importantly I believe a teacher should be a role model. The teacher must adjust his or her teaching approach to the way the student will learn what’s being taught to them not the other way around. Everything should be done in the interest of the children and their academic success. All students are different and they all have different learning styles. It is the teacher’s duty to find out what leaning style the student holds and target that teaching approach.
Working hard and always driven is how I was able to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Bilingual 4th – 8th grade. Sul Ross ... read more

More About This Tutor...

My teaching credentials are in English and education. However... At the middle school level and high school level, I have taught/tutored English composition, geography, history, social studies, government, economics, and computer applications. At the college and adult level, I have taught/tutored English composition, oral communications (public speaking and debate), business and business administration, resume writing, advanced computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the Open Office Suite). Having been CEO of a corporation in the public arena, do not expect me to be your normal indoctrinated politically correct public school teacher or college professor. Judge me by the results.
Whether it is in front of a class of 40 or one-on-one, I have been endowed not only with the talent to teach, but also with the God-given ability to motivate. Mo ... read more
