As a mother of 16 yr old twins, I have always been a tutor in reading, english and literature. I got my degree in English/Art/Art Therapy/Literature as a result of my love for the written word and regarding books as our passport to the world around us near and far. I have learned the skills and applied them in research papers, essays and other areas where required in my schooling. I hold an English degree from a program that largely overlapped with Education - basically, I have studied teaching as a student at college. On the other end of the spectrum, I have been a substitute educator for Capital Region BOCES for 3 years, working with teaching professionals on short-term assignments. Through this experience I believe I have gathered a good deal of craft in the area of special-needs learning.
I think it is more important to understand the student than to understand the material. I as ordained a Priest in 2004 but have twenty years of teaching from vocal/piano to languages. I am bilingual growing up with a father from Quebec,Canada and can easily tutor in French in both dialects. I can also tutor literature and reading. I love working with young people and see that as part of my ministry. And while my faith is extremely important to me, I am not looking to convert others.
