A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored before, I am currently tutoring kids at my high school everyday in the subject in which they need help in. My goal in tutoring is to not only to have the child succeed in the course but to understand the concept of the course. My style of teaching is different for each child, because everyone does not learn the same way. Some people are visual learners and with them I focus on teaching them with pictures. A teacher never stops teaching, and never ceases learning.

I have to first find the learning style of the student. As a teacher, I find that students have diverse ways of learning and that I must adapt my teaching style to their needs. For instance, I have some students who are auditory learners and sometimes retain information more if information is read orally to them. Some students must have a generous amount of explanation as to the content of what he or she is reading while otheers require many visual cues to accompany their learning. It really depends upon the student.

Reading opens whole new worlds just waiting to be explored.

I spent three Summers working as a volunteer, teaching reading to children of Hungarian refugees in England. I enjoyed working with these young people and they were eager to learn. I am a voracious reader and have been all my life. I am also a writer, I have had articles published in our Diocesan magazine and in the Franciscan Times, I am currently an assistant editor of Franciscan Times. Creating Confident Students via Creative Learning

Turning your weakness into your strength

I help guide the student along, having them discover much of the information in a trial and error fashion. I tend to use the questions they are struggling with the most, making similar examples, then walking them through these problems and breaking down the problems until the student understands the how the process works.
