A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught for a total of 11 years. I taught in Prince George's Public schools for 5 years, Hyde Leadership Public Charter School in DC for 1 year, Avon Park High School for 2 years, Hardee Junior High for 1 year, and Bill Duncan Opportunity Center (alternative school) for 2 years. I have a Bachelor's in Biology and certifications in Math (5-9), Biology (6-12), and Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum (5-9). I plan to also attain a certification in ESOL and Reading by the end of the year.I am also interested in getting two Master's, in Counseling and Nursing. My Style from the beginning is to involve the parents and the student in the work ahead.I cover all the material in depth and offer counselling on study methods and give extra tables and information to be used during the instructions. As we progress I change the methodology (if necessary)to help the student feel more comfortable and confident in what he is learning.I am patient and a low key teacher. My only goal is the pursuit of knowledge for both the student and myself. If the teacher is not learning from his students then he is not growing and therefore will not be able to help this student or any others in the future.

My teaching style is "one-on-one" for the most part. My first instinct with tutoring is empathetic: if I were struggling in this particular subject, what would be the best way for me to understand it? If this method proves ineffective, I would choose a different technique. I am a visual learner so I often teach visually. I feel it is my job to inspire a student to want to love learning in the most effective manner of doing so.
I graduated with a BS in theology because I felt it was interesting as much as it was challenging!
