As an educator I have the opportunity to help my students find their strengths, build on them, and guide them on their future path. This opportunity can also be a challenge. It becomes my responsibility to rise to the challenge and be the person they say was important in shaping their future. I want to be prepared to help students recognize their strengths and how those apply to a profession, how to prepare for the transition from school to the workforce, the military, or college, and how to successfully embark on their post-school life.

Academic inquiry and standards for achievement serve the self-directed learner's quest for personal and professional success. Additionally, the social and emotional learning model takes educating adults, and even youth, into new dimensions. Its application includes development of the whole person, not just the intellect.

In all my years of teaching, I came to the realization that every child is different . When it comes to teaching, I like to learn a little about the child first. Then once I know everything I need to know, I go by what interests the child and I use that to teach them . Although sometimes it is not as simple, I do what ever it is that I have to do to ensure that the child is learning .
I've been working with children since the day I got my first job. I don't know if it is the fact that I am the oldest of 6, or if it is just in my blood to teach . My first job was at a very small day care that consisted of about 14 kids, ages 1 to 12 . I helped the older children with their homework and with the younger children, our day consisted of fun learning games . I also worked at Unlimited Tutoring for 3 years, there I helped tutor children ages 6 to 15 in Math, Reading, English, and History.

I like to gauge where the student is then go from there. If a student is having a problem, I try to see where there might be a gap in the backround knowledge, then fill it in, or if there is a problem in their processing of the information, I try to correct it. I do this fairly quickly. I'm typically able to tell just from a student's eyes as they look at a problem or how quickly they approach it, if they're having a problem. If I've worked with them for a while, I'm frequently able to know exactly what that problem is without them even saying it. I try to break the problem down into smaller parts, so it's more understandable to the student. Then we put it back together to see how those parts relate to the problem as a whole. Sometimes I will ask the student to extrapolate a little in order to anticipate a lesson or a theorem that is coming up. Once the student seems to und ... read more

Through my teaching experience thus far, I have found the method of facilitating rather than dictating to be a highly beneficial style of teaching. I have learned that if students construct their own learning experiences they will not only retain information longer, but they will also become more confident in their abilities. Being devoted to this assertion confims that I have made the right career choice for myself. I love working with young people, and will continue to strive to be a positive influence in their lives.
I have earned a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I have over 15 years of teaching experience in all grade levels. I have spent the majority of my teaching career educating young adults in the areas of math, science, reading, social studies and writing.
