My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I have lived through raising an adult daughter who has ADD. I have lectured, to teachers and mentored parents to help their ADHD children to "level the playing field" by learning how to learn using their specific strengths and strategies to stay focused. My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : 20 yrs. (my younger sister I helped throughout school, 4th grade - graduating from Nursing school. Both my sons age 7&8)

I've either taught or tutored in some form or fashion for over 17yrs now. I've had ages 3yrs to 22yrs old covering all manner of subjects and hobbies. One of my most rewarding experience was with an 18 year old special needs 10th grader ready to drop out of school. We met 2-3x a week for 6mths. In that time he raised his GPA from 1.2 to 2.7. He completed his 10th grade year and went on to take and pass the G.E.D. the following year.

Struggles with math or reading

Teaching children is something that brings me joy. Watching them make strides and connections in their learning makes me smile. I currently teach preschool to children with many different cognitive, behavioral, medical, sensory, and emotional needs. In the evenings and occasionally I get calls from my niece to help her via face time with her algebra. We have been doing this tutoring for 2 yrs.

Ex-classroom school teacher with 10 years plus experience!

My teaching style is one that always tries to relate to the child and to have fun. Does the child enjoy video games, dinosaurs, soccer, dance, or a particular cartoon character? When I discover what it is the child enjoys, I bring that element into the subject we are learning about. If the child likes soccer and struggles in reading, I research about famous soccer players and find books on them. Perhaps, at the end of a teaching session, we go outside and kick the soccer ball for 5 minutes as a source of inspiration to get work completed. Bringing in other ways of learning through play and games is also something I enjoy. Playing simple math games or reading games is a easy way to teach a child, without them realizing they are learning.
