My style of teaching is to first get the student to understand the basics that are needed as a foundation. For example, my friend was having trouble completing accounting homework and I soon realized that it was because he had not memorized the basic equations; i.e., "assets - liabilities = owner's equity," and "beginning inventory + purchases - ending inventory = cost of goods sold." By providing sufficient material and probing questions, students ready, willing, and able to learn can take us - teacher and student - on surprisingly rewarding journeys.
