A Little Bit About Me...

I am, as of this past May, a high school graduate. I was co-president of the National Honors Society and a member of the Spanish National Honor Society at Rochester High School. I graduated third in my class, and I received awards for Physics, Vocal Music, Leadership, and Drama. I received A's in all of the subjects that I am willing to teach and I am comfortable in my knowledge of them. This fall, I will be attending Illinois State University as a Physics and Engineering major.
I have never officially taught, but I have been told by my peers that they believe I would have some skill at it. Mostly, my teaching style would involve working through problems or homework step by step with a student at first, and then once they gain more confidence, allowing them to do more work on their own. My comments on tutoring Physics : Received an A in a double-paced college Physics course at Richland Community College.

I am a natural teacher - it's what I do when I'm not getting paid. I just like to share knowledge of what, why, when, where, and how. I like the process of learning, and it is a privilege to get to witness, or even positively influence, that process in someone else. I have been paid for my teaching skills for the past 9 years, in various settings, including piano instruction, guitar instruction, tutoring at the Community College in Chemistry, Biology, and Microbiology, as well as assist teaching for the Decatur Public School District. My greatest joy as a tutor and professor is to witness the "Ah-ha" moment when the light bulb comes on and the student puts the pieces together and comes to understand the topic, and, perhaps more importantly, understands the significance or ramifications of the topic in relation to other topics or disciplines. As the “Ah-ha” moments add up a student’s confidence grows. Ultimately, this confidence in learning is what I am trying to achieve. I want the student to learn and believe that there is nothing he/she can’t achieve with effort and perseverance. I believe that anyone can learn anything.
