More About This Tutor...

While at Springfield College I started tutoring some of my fellow students in the areas of math and science for a little extra cash. I have always wanted to mimic the kind of tutoring I received as a struggling math student in middle school. I was never the best at math until I started to receive tutoring and everything started to click. The extra help I got in math was essential to my studies at the university level and all my previous coursework leading up. I want to be that tutor who helped everything click.
When I tutor I try and understand where they are having trouble and try to find the best way of explaining in a way that is beneficial to the student.

Biology is one of my top subjects! Received an A in Biology at Richland Community College in 2010, and received the distinguished award "Most Outstanding Biology Student of the Year" for 2010/2011 Academic School Year within the college. I also received a B in Microbiology the same year. I plan to continue my education in Molecular and Cellular Biology, and eventually Neurobiology.

I am a visceral teacher. I like to use illustrations whenever possible, videos, photographs, drawings... I like making connections to things that may seem unrelated - I think this strengthens neuro-pathways and thought processes. I also think that laughter stimulates learning, so I like students to feel at ease - I will make myself look dumb if it will make someone laugh and relax.
I am a natural teacher - it's what I do when I'm not getting paid. I just like to share knowledge of what, why, when, where, and how. I like the process of learning, and it is a privilege to get to witness, or even positively influence, that process in someone else. I have been paid for my teaching skills for the past 9 years, in various settings, including piano instruction, guitar instruction, tutoring at the Community College in Chemistry, Biology, and Microbiology, as well as assist teaching for ... read more

I believe teaching is my calling. I love sharing my enthusiasm for learning with others. I am a great motivator and my goal is to inspire every child to succeed in order to reach his/her potential. I am patient, knowledgeable, considerate, and understand that every child learns differently. I feel that my creativity allows me to adapt to student needs. I take a constructivist approach to teaching. I believe that students should be active learners and should set their own goals for themselves. The best reward is knowledge and the ability to attain their goals. I think students learn best by practice, as well as from peer interaction. I am certain I can help your child succeed.

A Little Bit About Me...

Being very active in higher education, I find myself taking on the roles of educator often. I have a strong background in the natural sciences with a BS in Horticulture, MS in Crop & Soil Environmental Science and PhD in Environmental Design and Planning. Throughout my education I have also written many technical and scientific documents and could offer guidance in this area as well. My experience would best be suited for college bound students as I can also offer guidance on how to plan and approach a college education.
I believe in curtailing the teaching experience specific to the student and understanding how best the student learns, either through visual or auditory stimuli. One of the best attributes a student can learn is critical thinking and to think beyond what is written on the paper. I approach critical thinking by researching numerous resources from which to lea ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a student at Eastern Illinois University (EIU) I majored in Accounting and minored in Chemistry and Pre-medicine. This path provided me with a well rounded education, which required me to take many courses in Chemistry, Physics, Math, Biological Sciences, Accounting, Tax, etc. As a student at EIU I was a Lord scholar graduating Summa Cum Laude with an accumulated GPA of 3.94/4.00. When I completed my masters degree my family and I moved to the Saint Louis area where I worked as a CPA and taught accounting and individual income tax at Southwestern Illinois College and Saint Louis University. After moving back to the Neoga, Illinois area I began teaching in the Accounting Department at EIU.
