I am currently a Special Education Teacher within the Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School District for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 school years. Prior to my employment there I was a building substitute within the Albany City School District as well as a certified BOCES substitute approved through many schools throughout the Capital Region. I completed my Masters at the University at Albany in Summer of 2013 in both Special Education and Literacy. During this program I completed several internships to prepare me for specific Special Education as well as Literacy instruction. I completed my Bachelors degree at State University of New York at Oneonta in Childhood Education and Spanish.

My goal with every child is to provide an educational experience tailored to her or him, specifically. I have mastered diagnostic techniques that will determine a child's needs in terms of learning-style, ability-level, and comfort-zone. In my experience, a constructivist approach, where the student is motivated to take control of her or his learning works best in that it provides children with the tools and confidence to remember and use the material. A Little Bit About Me...

After completing my graduate program and student teaching at Latham Ridge Elementary School, I became an aide within the same building. This position lent itself to filling in maternity years the following year. I was then hired as a sixth grade teacher and have been in that position since that time. At this point, I teach mathematics, reading, and writing. All of the students with special needs are placed into my classroom each year. The best teaching style in my opinion, explains how to research, plan and write essays, gives students time to practice these skills in class, and ensures students get feedback on how well they have done on each sub-skill. Students learn skills by using them in a realistic, subject-specific context, and in a combined way. So they might use other skills taught before such as note taking, highlighting, all in context. The purpose of the skills are stressed, students are taught not just what to do and how, but also why. The students then reflect on how well they used the skills, what gains they were getting and so on, and then they action plan for improvement.
