I really like to help people in general, that's the reason why I became a Resident Assistant. As a Resident Assistant I have aided many students with problems they may have in their first year of college, including tutoring them in subjects i am proficient in. I like to see people grow and learn over which is achieved by aiding a person in discovering and cultivating various talents.
My tutoring experience isn't really too official. I mostly just help people with College Algebra around the dorms. I am pretty good with teaching and helping with math, and could probably do it at a High School level. Not actually having a BS probably will just limit me to high school tutoring. As an undergrad, I excelled in the arts, history and social science courses. However, I lacked interest in math (I didn't get it) and failed college algebra two times! I taught Court Reporting English (4 levels) for a private college in Bakersfield, CA., from 1986-1990. I have been tutoring students in English off and on for the past 18 years. Teaching-tutoring has always been an avocation rather than my vocation. I have some spare evening time and would like to continue to tutor.
My teaching style is to get my students involved in the English process; from grammar to vocabulary to basic syntax, I try to make my classes fun and interesting as well as productive.
