I love teaching. While I have also been a counselor and administrator, I managed to be able to at least tutor along the way, with a few exceptional years. I found that children were especially responsive to me, so I often found myself with elementary children (who, under my tutelage, managed to "catch up" an/or improve their grade point average -- often to their parents' delight). Since I love learning, children and teens "catch" my enthusiasm, and invariably get caught up with my honest excitement about a suject. After 10 years in the magazine and event business, I moved into teaching technology at a small, local high school. In addition to teaching, I earned my credential and masters in education during the first three years. My background in editing and love of computers has proven very valuable. Although students are using computers, they need review and practice in English grammar, writing strategies and punctuation as an essential part of each lesson. My expertise in journalism, editing and interviewing has come in very handy. In addition, I am often called to teach not only students, but provide staff training and informal one-on-one tutoring.
