Educator for 17+ years seeking to help with our tomorrow!

I'll be honest. My "students" from the past have told me that during the time when I was actually sitting down and tutoring/working with them, they didn't even notice that they were actually doing the work. What I do when I try to make the "students" learn is to make them see what the books are trying to say to them through what we see through our eyes, in our world, every day. For example, if the book says: 7 - x = 4, I would be telling the child/adult, "Imagine if you had 7 dollars in your hand." I would then ask them, "How many do I need to take away (subtract) for you to have 4 dollars?" When working with the lower kids, I even use the actual objects and lay them on tables in front of me and show to them so they don't have to use their imagination to figure it out. Volunteer and worker at camp Kids Inc for two and a half years. Read to elementary students 3 times a week and help them with reading comprehension. Volunteered to be a mentor to a junior high girl. I helped her with advice but also just was a support for her when she needed it. Worked at a sports team camp teaching little kids from the ages of kindergarten through sixth grade how to play volleyball.
Students must understand that they have come to me to learn more. But I also want to enjoy the time I have with them so they feel like learning is fun.

Hands-On Learning

I love to interact with children. I believe that children should be involved with their school work. Hands on work and visual interactions help when certain curriculums don't sink in. Involving children to learn, beyond taking notes, helps them understand difficult subject and also helps them retain them better to memory.
I'm currently enrolled in Kaplan University pursuing my certification to become a Registered Dental Assistant with Extended Functions. I have completed High School and obtained my Diploma in 2014.
