I have found that tutoring sessions are most effective when they are fun! Many students find it difficult to stay focused, especially after a full school day. For this reason, I prefer to change tasks frequently and use a variety of fun games to switch up the pace of the session. Although I do not have paid experience teaching regular school subjects, I have extensive experience teaching skill to all age level learners in a gym/pool setting. I taught swim lessons and exercise classes for nearly 20 years, and taught weight lifting techniques/sports conditioning for 2 years. i am also active in teaching at church and work with my own children as well as their friends in completing school projects.

As a psychology major I was fascinated with how the mind works in all arenas. As it has evolved over the years, my teaching style has become a mix of facilitation and direct instruction, with the goal always being the student's making his own discovery. I was trained in the Socratic style, which seems to match well with inquiry-based learning, and that is how my classes usually end up. I introduce activities, then gradually release them to the students to lead.
