My comments on tutoring Statistics : Statistics is a subject that does not typically get in-depth coverage in K-12 classrooms, and I can help students understand the importance of basic statistics and data analysis with both drill exercises and real-world projects like weather-tracking.

I prefer personal and small group teaching, but I can also do online tutoring with Webex. I like to get to know my students and their goals. I can help students set those goals, make plans, and achieve. I have lots of experience creating curriculum materials and lessons, and I try to find a real-life application to each lesson.
My career path has winded around quite a bit but always focuses on computer science and math education. My education experience has included tutoring freelance, tutoring on USD's payroll, leading group study sessions, providing supplemental instruction for university coursework, leading workshops at a computer camp, writing workshops for that camp, and ultimately teaching math full time in a high school. My computer science field experience includes several part-time jobs, freelance web development, personal projects, an internship with NASA, and ultimately ... read more

Practice, practice, practice. Math is not learned by watching, it is learned by doing. Some types of problems can be learned after only a few examples, others take much more time and patience. My role as a tutor is help guide students through a problem while doing as little of the actual calculations as possible. I try to make my students see that many problems, while different in appearance, are actually the same as ones they've already solved before. I always strive to get that "ah ha!" moment from my students, where they understand not only how to do a problem, but why we used that method to solve it in the first place.
Ever since I was young, I have always found joy in mathematics. Number puzzles, real life applications, and the teaching of math are all fascinating and enjoyable to me. I studied mathematics and economics in college so I could work on more advanced quanti ... read more

I believe that everybody can learn and comprehend math. Math is an intimidating subject for most people, so my goal as a teacher is to show my students that it is more like a puzzle. With all puzzles, you just need to know the steps to solving it in order to be successful, and my job is to teach these steps. It bothers me when people say how much they hate math, so when I’m working with students, my goal is to make my students never feel intimidated. I do this by giving them real-world examples to show them that they can succeed if they can see it apply to their life. I think with the right instruction, anybody can learn math and be successful.
