A Little Bit About Me...

With my years of being around and in an educational environment, I have picked up patterns of repetition and summary to reinforce ideas being conveyed. I, myself, learn best by doing. Through studying adult learning styles, I discovered that studies show utilizing all facets of learning - writing, audio, visual, and hands on - leads to the highest levels of retention. I teach by 1) talking by the student to determine his or her best learning style and 2) utilizing the various methods listed above so that the student can retain the maximum amount of information through his or her best learning style.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a life-long student, I aspire to a life of teaching. While an undergraduate at St. Olaf College, I developed strong communication and interpersonal skills as a writing center tutor and ESL mentor. After graduating magna cum laude in 2005, I became a volunteer educator in Chicago and taught elementary and middle school math, reading, art and social studies. Today, as a graduate student and composition instructor at the University of Montana, I relish the opportunity to pursue literature and develop my classroom teaching expertise. I am a passionate believer in individualized education. Good education matches a child’s level, pace of learning, and interests. I am very student-centered in my teaching. I use a variety of means to engage students and to allow self-direction so that students can “work” from their interests.
