I am relaxed, calm, and patient when tutoring. I use graphical, verbal and/or written methods dependent on the skill set and approach that is best for each student. I believe that every student has an innate ability to learn. It is the tutor's job to find out the approach that will yield the best results with each individual student.
I graduated with my Master's in Chemical Engineering in 1985 and have used that experience and my life experience to excel at the tutoring that I have done over the last 15+ years. I have tutored all levels of mathematics, high school and college Chemistry and SAT/ACT preparation and study. My education has been invaluable to my ability to help students excel.

I don't know that I favor any particular style of teaching, I just try to relate to the student. I find out what he/she likes doing, and I try to find examples and analogies using these things. I also try to find more than one way of explaining things. This seems to ensure that the student is acturally learning processes and not just answering the question.
I have obtained my masters degree in education and now have three years experience teaching math. In particular, I have instructed 7th and 8th grade middle school students as well as 9th – 12th grade high school students. As part of my lifelong love of learning and teaching, I began tutoring when I was just fourteen years old. While in high school, I usually tutored math (mostly algebra, geometry, and trigonometry) and general science. Once I moved to college, I began to work with middle school as well as high school students again in mostly math and science. However, I have a BA in politics and history; therefore I am extremely confident in many liberal arts subjects. I have also earned an MBA which helped to hone my grammatical and communication skills. A Little Bit About Me...

I feel as an educator it is always important to learn from the students before you can teach them. The most necessary factor to success is being able to recognize just how the student learns and be able to take your teaching methods and adjust accordingly. Having had many good professors, teachers and tutors personally, I feel that this approach makes a world of a difference. I do try to mix things up in terms of teaching methods, once the subject seems to be sinking in, just to try to get students used to teachers or tutors who may not operate in this manner.

While studying Physics at Iowa State University, I first discovered my love for teaching and tutoring and have been doing it almost continuously since then. I worked for the ISU Academic Success Center helping groups of 1-4 students learn calculus and calculus-based physics for 3 semesters. They always left my sessions understanding the subject better and gave me the highest reviews possible. Later, after briefly attending grad school, I went to Mexico and taught for a year. In my time there, I worked at both a private language school and as a 9th grade teacher at a private school.
