My comments on tutoring Drawing : For the greater part of my life I have been deeply interested in art in all it's phases and have had a mumber of original works published as full page covers for the arts section of "Seven Days" - a weekly newspaper published in Burlington VT. I have participated in Open Studios frequently in both Vermont and Florida.

In my teaching, I make every effort to engage the attention of my students. While covering the subject at hand, I bring into my lessons references to a spectrum of other subjects when relevant such as historical context, cultural elements, literary allusions, modern and historical implications and facts and trivia relating to the subject which I believe will not only be of interest to the student but will also provide a more rounded appreciation of the benefits of a wide ranging education.
For the greater part of my life I have been involved in various facets of education. I have acted as substitute teacher at the middle and high school levels for a total of 10 years, 8 of which were spent at 12 schools in Vermont and 2 at 10 schools in Hernando County FL. I held the position of Senior ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) with a highly reputed language school in Vienna ... read more

Helping learners find solutions to their problems is my passion. My greatest strength is compassion. I believe that anyone can achieve. I enjoy helping others discover their innate joy of learning. "Half of knowledge is knowing where to find it."

After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. I have been tutoring with Advanced Learners for 1 year and am currently an Adjunct Instructor of Public Speaking at HCC Dale Mabry.
Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach.

"Be who you are to the best of your ability"

Relaxed, but always thinking. Merging ideas and mind mapping to get the form down. I like to use many mediums to help achieve the desired effect. Brain storming - Research - sketching - production - Assessment - Recreate
I'm an artist/ educator, who sees no boundaries to where thinking and art forms should go. I enjoy all mediums of expression, each for its own ability to communicate and serve its purpose. Life is about experimenting and mistakes happen, but never let this get you down. I've failed many times and always learn and come back stronger than before. Enjoy the moment too, don't always be looking too far ahead.* 20 years of teaching of Art & Design (4 middle school, 9 high school, and 7 college level)

A Little Bit About Me...

As an artist I am a visual learner, so I teach in that manner. I like to first teach the fundamentals of art such as perspective and proper proportions, how to draw from life, and a great understanding of color theory. Teaching these then allow no boundaries for personal creation and self expression. I will have a print out of the course and mini lessons to complete throughout the week as well as a materials list.
Currently an art instructor at Painting with a Twist, where fun and fine art collide. I have experience with teaching all ages how to conquer a 16x20 canvas painting in 2 hours. More About This Tutor...

I am currently enrolled in an Educator Preparation Institute to obtain my certification to teach. In the meantime, I am employed as a substitute teacher for Pasco County, and I previously volunteered for after school care tutoring programs for children between the ages of 6-18. I feel that I have a very positive attitude, and when I am dealing with children I try to remain clam and comical. I feel that if I can try to, no only, encourage the child to learn, but also to equate learning with a positive feeling/attitude then the process of learning will become that much more enjoyable.

I also gained an immense knowledge in understanding and researching groups, as well as individuals, by participating in an Honors/Thesis program offered by the department of Anthropology. After volunteer tutoring at my daughters’ schools, I was determined to study teaching to have a better understanding of children with special learning needs. As a private college student, I was very motivated to obtain superior grades and I maintained an average G.P.A. of 3.50+ while caring for my children and home. As I began teaching I was involved in extensive professional development courses through each school district I worked. While working with many different teachers I aquired extensive amounts of content knowledge and teaching strategies in elementary education, biology, English, American government, world cultures and economics.
As evidenced by my experiences, I enjoy teaching students on many different ability and grade levels. My students found me to be laid back and understanding with high expectations. I believe each student has a unique gift to offer but it take ... read more
