I graduated magna cum laude from Drury University, a private liberal arts college, in 1987, with a major in fine arts (photography and graphic design emphasis) and minor in communications (four years experience on the college newspaper). I also have 21 years of experience as an editor at weekly and daily newspapers in Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Working primarily at smaller newspapers, I have an extremely varied background of experiences - from writing "hard" news and features to on-the-job training for new reporters just out of college or new to the profession.
My teaching style is centered around working with an individual wherever they happen to be at. In college, I assisted other students in Drury's writing lab. And, as an editor and journalist, I have extensive skills in dealing with helping reporters to communicate clearly and succinctly.

A Little Bit About Me...

For the past several years I have owned a run my own Grant Writing Company. I specialized in the teaching and the mentoring of my clients in the Grant application process. I worked hand-in hand with them in preparing the detailed paperwork. I aided them in so as they were able to shape their business proposal so that it would fit the necessary criteria to recieve various grants. I am an accomplished writer, public speaker and independent business owner.
I first must one hundred percent become knowledgeable and comfortable with the material I will be teaching. I enjoy being able to personalize myself not only with the work but the students as well. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching and assisting students to obtain a goal. I enjoy the change in attitude and increase in self confidence when "it finally clicks" and students realize they understand the subject matter at hand and CAN do it. I think everyone is capable of learning anything, the key is to figure out what style works for them. I believe, by currently being a student myself, I have a better understanding of the stresses and constraints on students. I am a Special Education teacher by education and by choice. My teaching style is one that can be changed at any time to answer the learning style of a student. I am a hands-on, multiple teaching style person because I know that students do not learn by using just one learning style. If I said that I just had one teaching style, then I would only be teaching to one type of student and that is detrimental to all students. I am a retired law enforcement professional. I returned to college and earned a B.S. in Education in2004. Currently I am enrolled in a graduate program in leadership at Duquesne University and have completed 18 hours of that program. I will graduate with a M.S. in Leadership in December, 2010. I hope to enter the Doctorate of Educational Leadership at the University of Missouri in June, 2011.
