While earning my undergraduate degree in Physics, I took advantage of a work-study opportunity at Franklin and Marshall and became a Physics and Chemistry Tutor for the introductory classes. In addition to tutoring science students at college, I also was the TA for a class that explored the role of racism in America's history titled "America in Black and White". Since earning my M.S. from Georgetown University, I have been an adjunct lecturer of Physics and Astronomy at Queensborough Community College and an adjunct lecturer of Chemistry at Dowling College. At Queensborough, I taught and administered Astronomy and Physics Laboratory sessions. At Dowling, I taught a class called "Physical Chemistry II: Quantum Chemistry". I started around 2005 tutoring for the departments of chemistry and math in Queensborough Community College, from the basic levels in organic chemistry 2 and calculus. I earned my Associate degree in science from Queensborough Community College and finished my Bachelor Degree in Stonybrook University. At Stonybrook University also tutor chemistry and math. During the summer 2006, I had the entire department of chemistry tutoring under my guide. My experience comes from teaching my own classes and from interacting with my students.
My style is open to discussion. I like to ask questions to the student about the knowledge they have and based on that, apply my knowledge to build a strong base to be used as a core to solve more problems. I live the one on one interaction but also love the group discussion. I used to tutor an entire classroom during summer for 6 hours straight.

I believe organic chemistry can be very simple if you work hard enough at it. I can work with as many as four students at a time, and keep repeating a topic with a student until he or she understands the subject completely.
I have a PhD in Organic Chemistry, a subject that is a major hurdle for pre-medical students. During my time at Tufts University, I have mentored many undergraduate students. Additionally, I won an award for Most Outstanding Teaching Assistant in the Fall of 2000.

I like to use the hands on approach. I find out what the weaknesses are of my students and address the topics by giving a general review. I present a problem for them to work out. After a few minutes, I ask them what they think is the best way to approach the problem. If they cannot come up with one, I then guide them through the appropriate thinking pattern in order for them to solve the problem. For me repetition of different related problems is the key to success.
I elected to be a stay at home mom after a successful career. I wanted a flexible work schedule and thought about tutoring. I found that I loved tutoring students ranging from elementary to college level. I found much satisfaction in students' improved grades and the mastery of the subject that I was able to impart. I strongly believe that education is the doorway to a successful career and tough subjects such as math ... read more

I graduated Rutgers University majoring in Biology and German, and minoring in Chemistry. I have a strong science background, which I will continue to expand by completing a PhD at Yale starting in the Fall. I have experience tutoring students in math during the last 2 years of high school, and 1 year of calculus tutoring in college. In addition, I tutor my 13 year-old sister in all the subjects of her curriculum.
My approach is to determine the student's weaknesses, and then formulate analogies to explain the difficult concepts. I study the student's learning style in order to infuse the new material as easily as possible. Additionally, I introduce new ways to understand the material, and then observe the student's reaction.

I would say that all people are capable of learning and improving their abilities, knowledge, and skill. My experience has been that if a child, youth, or adult is given the space in which to learn, and introduced to material in a patient manner, in the style that works for them (be that through explanation or visual learning, etc) they will take the initiative to learn and grow at the pace and direction which works for them. People are naturally inclined to learn and grow, and my experience is that when given the opportunity and supportive role of a teacher, they will become interested in learning and continue to do so.

My teaching style is to catch up mistakes and correct them but my priority is in teaching by showing examples or patterns, by practicing repetitions, by having learner write. For instance, when I took the initiative of teaching french to my newborn (now a teen), I used to flip and "read" small colorful one-large-drawing-per-page books with a noun written with its article. Afterwards, every so often and when the child is ready, to go up one level of difficulty, I did just that and my child spoke fluently with complete sentences at age 13 months. Today, her french is so clear that no one could guess she also speaks english.
As a passionate of the french language, I am proud to say that I speak fluently the version used in France and that I can tell the difference among many other countries'. As a native speaker, I passed the CLEP examination with a score of 80/80 towards my degree. I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I really enjoy teaching because I enjoy seeing the progress with people as they excel in something they thought they would never be able to do. I like working with children because I can make learning fun and interesting to them. I have a lot of experience working with younger children in elementary school all the way up to young adolescents in high school. I have also been a mentor to freshmen in college. My teaching style is very eclectic. I understand that all people learn differently, and I am very open to adapting to the style that works best for them. Ultimately my main goal is to see people succeed and feel good about them selves. Teaching and tutoring comes very natural to me, because I have a lot of patients, and enjoy problem solving with a variety of people.
I am a recent college graduate who is very focused and motivated. I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology an ... read more
