My comments on tutoring SAT - Verbal : Having scored a 1370 on the SAT after three attempts, I can safely say that I wish I knew then what I know now about taking the SAT. Moreso than any other exam, the SAT can be approached with a very methodical strategy that will maximize the student's time and minimize the number of points lost. As far as the contents of the exam go, they are not much more difficult than the typical FCAT. Many students simply freeze or forget important information when faced with the stresses that a big, important exam like the SAT has in store. With the proper tutelage, however, a student will be well prepared to receive this exam and succeed!

Greetings one and all! My name is Tristan, and I am a recent graduate of the University of Florida's College of Engineering as of August 2012. I graduated with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Nuclear Engineering and a cumulative GPA of 3.25 (and I will tell you that I earned every point of it). I am looking forward to using my knowledge and proficiency in various fields of math and science to make your four year slog through the rigors of academia as palpable as possible. I offer flexible hours, friendly demeanor, and a patient approach to tutoring that caters to your individual skill set. All of this comes at a reasonable price, which can of course be negotiated to suit your budget (remember, I was once a broke college student too). In short: I work with you, for you, and on your terms! I offer tutelage in many technical disciplines: Math, Science, and Engineering are my b ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I'm a rising senior in high school who has been tutoring peers/coaching the math team at my high school for three years. Both my PSAT and SAT scores are in the 99+ percentile and include perfect scores of 800 in both the Mathematics and Writing Sections of the SAT. I also received a score of 800 in SAT Math Level 2. I have thoroughly studied the SAT/PSAT and can pinpoint exactly what the tests are asking for and how to raise your scores. I firmly believe anyone can raise his or her scores drastically with the proper techniques and guidance, as I have helped several people do so and have done so myself. I am also willing to tutor anyone who is interested in the following subject areas: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Statistics, Pre-Calc, and Calculus (up to the AP calc BC level or calc 2). $20/hr. Contact me if interested and I will get in touch as soon as possible. Thanks

My comments on tutoring SAT - Verbal : I have experience tutoring students for the SAT, both individually and in small groups. I worked with the Let's Get Ready organization in Framingham, MA, which offers weekly SAT sessions for students in underprivileged neighborhoods.

I am a big proponent of the theory of multiple intelligences and believe that each student has certain styles of learning that work best for them. I aim to help students figure out how they learn best. Once they realize where their strengths are, they can incorporate the concept into all of their studies, not just the subject for which I happen to be tutoring them.
I have tutored a wide variety students on many subjects. I am most experienced tutoring high school students for the SAT. I worked with Let's Get Ready, a non-profit organization dedicated to preparing high school students for the SAT and their college search process. I typically tutored students for the Math section, but I am capable of tutoring for the Critical Reading and Writing sections as well. Some of my other tutoring experiences have been with middle and high school students. I have tutored several students in ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I really enjoy working with youth and helping them learn. I have faith that all children can flourish given the proper chances. I believe in making learning enjoyable, which is why my teaching style is based on mutual respect. I am patient, laid back, and I employ a rewards-based learning system. I’ve found that it is most helpful to relate subject material to the child’s interests, and so I do that often. I am always available to help, even through phone and email. I strive to make a positive difference in the world, and once I am committed to something, I give myself wholeheartedly.
As a student at the University of Florida, I am very driven to succeed in academia as well as help others. I have taken several credit hours of education classes. Additionally, I hold a paraprofessional certificate which allows me to be a teacher assistant. During the past couple of years, I have tuto ... read more

As a college athlete I always have been encouraged to help out the community. Because of my high level of math, I knew that I could really help others learn the material in a fun way. Math is something that has always been easy to me, and I have completed through calc 1,2,3 and Differential Equations. I scored in the top 96 percentile in arithmetic based math on my ADHD testing in 2006. I volunteer as a baseball coach with kids at all ages and skill levels so I am fully aware that different kids learn at different levels in different ways. I am there to serve them, they do not owe me anything, and I owe them everything. It is my job to help them out in the subject they need to succeed in.
I am very interactive with the student and I want them to see me as a friend. I for one do not like to be told what to do and how to do it, that never helps me learn. It is better when you feel ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a life long learner, the parent of two school age children, and a business professional, I continue to be intrigued and encouraged by the willingness of students to learn. As an adult student earning a bachelors and masters degree, I gained a passion for education as I was not the typical college student. Rather, I was a very typical high school student, and later a part time college student, who was not prepared for college. My passion is to bring out the best learner any student can be, plain and simple. Through my work as a school board member and Junior Achievement volunteer classroom teacher, I have expanded my passion for education.
As indicated previously, I believe all children can learn. More importantly, parents and teachers can learn a great deal from their children, specifically by listening and recognizing what motivates, excites, and draws the child in. I am e ... read more

Literally all my life I have been asked by students, parents and teachers to help students who were having trouble. I get tremendous fulfillment from watching someone who has been frustrated finally "get it." In addition to teaching music lessons, tutoring all subjects, and homeschooling my own two children, I have worked for the last 17 years with a private school. There I have taught a wide variety of subjects, but they depend on me the most heavily for high school sciences and maths. I am currently a registered substitute teacher, state certified to teach music and high school math, and I am working toward certification in more subjects. Due to my own hunger for education, I am actively pursuing a Masters Degree in Math Education.
When I begin tutoring a new student, my first objective is for us to get to know each other. The student will not be able to receive very much from me ... read more

My favorite approach is to take it slow. I find that to teach a student a specific field of knowledge there is almost always a hindering block that cannot be seen at first glance. For instance, a student who is having trouble with division of decimal numbers may not realize that the whole issue stems from his lack of understanding of the multiplication tables. Allowing the student to show you what he or she knows and watching the student attempt the problem step-by-step will reveal this hidden block. Once this hidden block is taken care of, the information will flow easily and naturally.
Throughout my education I have always prided myself in being an excellent student. Although this extended to all my subjects, my most passionate courses have always been in mathematics. This has been true from elementary all the way through college. Once in high school, I began tutoring students in ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching art to all age levels. I really enjoy it when I show someone an art technique, they learn it, and make it their own. When teaching art, I feel it very important to demonstrate a technique, discuss how the technique has been used in different cultures, and then for the student to mimic my actions. Once the technique has been mastered, the student can take the technique and use it in their own way. As a math tutor, I work closely to find a method that clicks for the student. I am very patient, and I use various ways of solving a problem to find the one that the student can most understand.
As an art teacher of over 15 years, I have taught painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, graphic arts, art history, and darkroom photography. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts at Christopher Newport University and my Master of Arts degree in Teaching an ... read more

I would like to pass on my dedication to learning and the understanding of cultural patterns to students and following them from their first encounters with social and cultural trends through the essays they ultimately produce as they learn how to think critically about these trends. I would bring to this work both preparation and experience, not only in my own skills as a writer and researcher but also in the teaching of subjects concerning social culture. Having begun my teaching career in the University of Colorado at Boulder, I am interested in continuing my work in the educational world, as I enjoy working with and teaching students because of the rewards I’ve found there.
I am interested in pursuing an academic career as a teacher and am eager to continue this path. I am able to teach many levels and pride myself on encouraging students to open up their own critical think ... read more

Coming from an industrial engineering background, I have all the necessary math and physics skills to train students at the high school and early college level. A major career shift to modeling nature made me acquire new knowledge of biology, ecology, and, of course, much more math. I have been on field-work for a long time, and I've trained several people in sampling techniques. I am currently teaching wildlife population ecology to undergraduate students at the University of Florida.
I am good with all ages. My ideas in physics, math, statistics and wildlife are very concrete. I am a visual person and do most of my teaching with real world examples. I believe that students only grasp concepts when they see things and relate situations into real life examples that they have experienced in their life.
