Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. I will implement practices and materials I think will fit the student's profile. I feel a teacher wears many hats and you must be prepared to wear a different one any day.
I have been a tutor for 23 years and I have taught Adult Basic Education for 12 years. I am still continuing my education to receive a Masters degree and plan to get my PhD. While at Wayne State University, I studied Geography, Urban Studies and the Italian language. When I graduated, I held a BA in Geography with minors in Urban Studies and Italian. During my education at Wayne, as I gained a good knowledge of the Italian language, I started to tutor lower-level students. In the end, I tutored Italian for one and a half years.
I am a very easy-going individual; I don't like to push too much but am encouraging. The way I think teaching Italian works best is to make associations with the English language. The two languages are so heavily intertwined, but not at face value. After learning Italian, my knowledge of English is much more profound.
