Tutor: Math, Physics, and Chemistry.

I like to work one on one with students in a neutral location. Small groups are not out of the question however.
When I was studying engineering at University of Michigan, I took a job as a tutor at Washtenaw Community College. This was the most rewarding job I ever had. Since about the year 2000, I have been working as a freelance tutor in the subjects of math, chemistry and physics. I also tutor students in engineering courses. I generally work with college students or upper-class high school students. Normally I work in the Brighton/Howell Michigan area. I meet most students at a public library or coffee shop. My average rate is $50 per hour. This can be negotiated, however. I like to take the students ability to pay into consideration and will charge less per hour if advanced payment can be arranged.

I like teaching. I enjoy watching the learning process to see how a student becomes better and better, improving his/her knowledge with time. I am flexible about teaching methods. Some students need a lot of theoretical aspects, then exercises. Other students need only exercises because they master the theory. Some students can be helped particularly with drawings, graphs, schemes (they are visual students). Others prefer hearing explanations (they are more auditive ones). I have been a tutor for 23 years and I have taught Adult Basic Education for 12 years. I am still continuing my education to receive a Masters degree and plan to get my PhD. I work for a community college and have done advising, enrollment, testing, phone directory, and student sevices. I have attended many professional development workshops on education.
Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them.
