I have a wide variety of experience and an innate desire to learn more about the world around me. I began my undergraduate degree in Political Science, but after taking a Biology course in California, became rather excited about the sciences. I have worked in a variety of laboratory settings, as well as in the field, applying the science that I have learned to real life situations and truly gaining a better understanding of the dynamic nature of the sciences. This is what I love. From reading the latest National Geographic to listening to Science Friday on NPR, the never-ending potential of science today excites me and certainly makes me a more dynamic, animated instructor. I try and find the style in which the child learns best. Many children just need help getting to where they want to go. I don't believe in ever just giving a child answers. You as teacher or tutor should lead them in the path of understanding and ask leading questions to get them to go in the right direction for the answers. Children should be able to explore their world and not be resigned to worksheets and rote answers. Learning should be a fun experience that everyone enjoys. During my undergraduate work at Florida State University I had the opportunity to spend many hours over the course of two years working in elementary schools with children. I have taught and helped tutor in all elementary subjects. My main internship was in a first grade classroom. I have always enjoyed working with children and seeing the light of understanding in their eyes.
