I have always loved teaching and working with students. My mother is a teacher of almost 30 years, so I have the importance of education ingrained in me. I do believe that every student can learn, some are just a little harder to reach than others. I am trained in a variety of teaching techniques and pride myself on being able to work through the strategies with students to find one that will work. I do believe that there must be a mutual level of respect between teacher and student and so I do work hard to learn about my students' backgrounds and interests to help with my lessons. Through all of my work related experience, teaching has been the one thing that I loved and felt completely comfortable doing. I am very straightforward in my style. I really enjoy doing things my way and seeing how the student responds. If the response is not positive then I modify and try again until we get it right. I am very much an auditory person myself so I am very verbal and love to talk things through. I came to teaching as a second career when I realized I was not happy in local politics. During my Junior and Senior year of college, I tutored at a Children's Home in Lubbock, TX, 3 nights a week. I have also taught Sunday School classes off and on for the past 15 years for ages 1 year to 14 years old. I volunteer on a regular basis at my son's school, and have worked with the students primarily with Math and English. I enjoy working with, and teaching, kids, especially in Math. Spanish and teaching have always been passions of mine that I have been fortunate enough to make a career out of doing and using both.
