I enjoy working with students and watching their growth and development academically. My approach to each student is different because I understand each will need a different approach. Initially with each student I identify his or her strengths and weaknesses with the material. While building on their strengths, I attempt to change their perspective towards the course material that seems difficult. For example, if a student is struggling with multiplication but has superior addition skills, I will use addition to help them understand multiplication.

I have always believed that a good teacher is the best tool to help students learn. Having personal experience with learning disabilities, I do not think that they prevent anyone from learning; rather, they provide students with a better understanding of themselves. Realizing that we all learn differently, I believe that teaching should incorporate multiple methods of presentation. I think that demonstrations and examples, which relate to everyday life, are two of the best methods when learning a new concept. I have experience with children and adults with ADHD and Asperger’s Syndrome, and found they perform best when interested. A Little Bit About Me...

I have done student teaching at the high school level in Math, specifically, Geometry and Trigonometry. I created innovative new ways to use the materials on hand to reawaken students' natural mathematical curiosity and to exemplify the concepts of the courses. I have done one semester of long term substitute work in which I taught underprivileged children Physics and Physical Science. I had to design the curriculum from the ground up because they had rotating substitutes before I took over. Beyond that, I have taught numerous and varied college labs and recitations in the UNC physics department, and I have tutored for those same classes. I have also recently started tutoring high school students in the area.
