Since graduating from my undergraduate program in 2007, I have had a passion for teaching and learning. My first teaching experience was working in Camden, New Jersey. I served as an intern art teacher for at-risk first through third graders in an after school/summer school program. Shortly thereafter I started my Master's program, where I integrated my passion for teaching into my capstone project. I was given the opportunity to teach at-risk fifth through eighth graders basic life and business skills, which included everything from how to calculate simple interest to how to apply for college. During and after earning my degree, I spent almost nine years working in healthcare as a medical assistant, teaching patients in a one on one environment. Most recently I was an Environmental Health and Safety Supervisor. I have given training presentations to groups from as small as three to as large as sixty. During this school year, I have worked as a substitute teacher for Calvary Christian Academy.I was involved in 4-H for 9 years. Through that opportunity I was instilled with a passion for community service. I enjoy teaching and working with children of all ages. I feel any person regardless of age can learn. Each learns to their own preferred learning style. First, an analysis of student skills must be taken to ensure foundational skills are sufficient. Next, students need an explanation of new material; I prefer a hands-on approach. This needs to be given in such a way that builds on previous knowledge with minimal confusion. Lastly, I feel students need practice with instant feedback, repetition and continuous review of weak skills.
