After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, I freelanced food styled with recipe development for clients such as Sonic, Waffle House, Omaha Steaks, Yarnell's Icecream, and Harry and David catalogs. I have been published in Southern Living Magazine and Home Mechanix Magazine, as well as food/restaurand flyers and catalogs. I was able to use my Art Degree and the basic principals of Design with basic food knowledge to produce delectable print ads and video commercials.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have learned that I enjoy teaching when it is in a more personal setting whether one on one or small class. That is why I enjoyed post secondary classes the most. For me one of the most important aspects of teaching is the ability to build relationships with the students. It is much easier for a student to learn when he or she is comfortable and is not made to feel as if they have to compete but only do the very best that they can.

I have taught K-Post Secondary through out my teaching career. I have done a great deal of graphic design work with military contractors. However I am most happy teaching. I am trying to get back into that arena because I realize that I was meant to teach, and to help others. There is something that I like to call the WOW factor in teaching. This is when a student gets it! When the light bulb comes on, or when a student understands that THEY, on their own, did something that, up to that point was like hitting a brick wall. Throughout my education experience, I was taught that whole learning is the best form of education. An education is not just gained through books; every life experience is capable of teaching a child. Math can be taught through books, games or even by counting the number of sprinkles on their sundae. Science can be taught by explaining why the cloud is in the sky and why it is raining. My experience has taught me that each child is different and how they learn is different. Each experience must be tailored to each child and when accomplished the child will excel.
