A Little Bit About Me...

As a student of psychology, I have always been interested in using my knowledge to help others improve themselves. My experience teaching academic subjects is fairly limited, however, for the past four years I have volunteered as an assistant instructor at my martial arts school whenever my sensei has needed the help, which has given me ample opportunity to work on my teaching techniques with a wide variety of students. Currently I am working with a group of younger children on their advanced self-defense techniques, however I have worked with older children, teenagers and adults in the past.
I've always enjoyed the opportunity to explain things I'm familiar with to people who need it explained. That said, I prefer a teaching environment in which the student has the opportunity to discuss the subject, and I like to keep examples practical if at all possible. As an aspiring psycholo ... read more

While studying these disciplines, I have developed an extremely strong background in researching scientific data, a great repertoire of communication skills due to my multiple presentations, and the ability to properly produce exceptionally technical reports and proposals. I have used my wide range of knowledge gained from my various studies to tutor a now senior in high school for over a year, as well as helping others with high school to college level work in the fields of English, literature, psychology, music, math, and science.
By having a strong background in an analytical approach to studying human behavior, I understand the process of not only how we learn, but also how to effectively teach. This specific train ... read more

I approach teaching in a way that is very versatile and I am willing to adapt to accommodate a variety of learning styles. In general however I tend to back up and work on the material that the student already is familiar and comfortable with. Once some review on the known material has been done I like to begin moving toward the material that is currently being reviewed. The length of time spent in the "review phase" is completely dependent on the student's current situation. Some situations might require a mere problem or two in this phase, while others might require additional time understanding the fundamentals before moving to the more complex current problems.
As a student attending Florida State University's Civil Engineering program I was required to regularly learn, understand and apply complex mathematical equations, and scientific concepts to both hypothetical and rea ... read more

Children are individuals and you must find their style of learning and be able to adapt your teaching style for that child. I believe that you must geniunely love children and teaching to be able to reach children. They can sense when someone really cares. I have a passion for learning that I believe translates to the children I work with.
I taught preschool for 5 years and had a home day care center for 4 years. I have worked as a paraprofessional at Springfield Elementary for the 3 years and was an after school tutor for the SES program for 2 terms for two different companies. Although I have not yet applied for certification, I am eligible for certification for Elementary Education as I have passed the FTCE K-6 certification exam.

More About This Tutor...

I am a Harvard graduate who has always sought academic excellence. I have a bachelor degree in Government and a secondary degree in Economics. I have a lot of experience in research and writing as my first career after college involved business planning. I have worked as a tutor for college freshmen and I ran a non-profit summer tutoring program teaching middle school students math, science, English, and history. I hold a provisional Teaching Certification from the State of Michigan; I have begun the process of transferring it to the State of Florida. A Masters degree in Education is in my near future. Prior to moving to Florida I was a football and softball coach for close to 10 years while serving the school district as a long term substitute in several capacities including Elementary and Special Education assignments.
The school setting is the perfect enviroment for character education. The combination of teaching academics and attitude together can lead a student on a path to success in all areas of life. It is my hope that students leave my care with a desire to reach their potential and be better than their peers.
